Golden Retriever Allergies
In the golden retriever, allergies are common, so a puppy should be well cared for to avoid a rescue.
Like all purebreds, these dogs are prone to a number of health disorders. Every perspective owner of a purebred dog should be aware of medical issues and be ready to provide proper care and treatment, if the dog falls ill. Hip dysplasia is the main concern with all large and active breeds. It’s an inherited developmental disease in young dogs, which can lead to lameness, if not treated. Eye disorders, such as cataract and Central Progressive Retinal Atrophy are also hereditary and can be prevented by selective breeding. Some bloodlines of the breed are prone to rare disorders, such as epilepsy, Subvalvular Aortic Stenosis, Hypothyroidism and others.
